Mentor Updates
Every mentor needs to have a yearly update. These updates are provided by the NHS Trusts and the University of Lincoln. Dates and booking details for Lincolnshire can be found here – Mentor Update Dates Apr – Jun 18 If you would like any further details on this, please contact the IPLU on IPLU.system@ulh.nhs.uk.
Mentor Triennial Reviews
If you are working as part of a Trust, then please contact them directly for paperwork to complete for your triennial review or the IPLU on IPLU.system@ulh.nhs.uk.
If you work for a Private, Voluntary or Independent sector, you need to complete the document attached Triennial Review Documentation Revised 2016 with your line manager and ensure a copy is returned to UoLpractice.support@lincoln.ac.uk for the mentor database.
Sign-Off Mentor
If you feel you would like to develop your mentorship further and take on the role of a sign-off mentor for third year final placement students, you can complete a workshop in order to do this. There may be physical workshops you can attend advertised locally or you may wish to complete the online training (see link below). Then to complete the sign-off mentor training, you will be required to do the final task of signing off a student at your work location whilst supervised by a current sign-off mentor. Please discuss this training with your key contact/line manager. You can contact Clare Sobieraj on csobieraj@lincoln.ac.uk for more details.

Hello Carol
You rightly point out that you need to have completed your yearly updates and have had contact with students. The following paragraph from the triennial review documents states;
“Every three years you will also need to have mentored at least 2 students in practice. You and your manager will discuss
who you have mentored and details of the experiences you had with them. You should have been involved in mentoring
these students but may not have been the assigned mentor or signed off their assessment documents.”
This does mean that you may not have been the students mentor, but you may have helped co-mentor or have had students with you on a period of insights.
Please feel free to contact me directly to discuss your situation and we can help find the solution. rmason@lincoln.ac.uk or 01522 886248 (although out of the office today).
Kind Regards
Rachael
Please can you help.
I have been trying to complete the triennial review and have asked several people regarding completion.
I have attended yearly updates but have not mentored a student for at least the past 3 years.
The reason being we have not had students placed with us during this time due to inadequate staffing levels and lack of mentors.
Am I still able complete my review or do I need to retrain?
