Information

There may be a lot of information you need as a practice placement provider of which most can be found on this page.

PEMS – Practice Education Management System
This link will take you to information on what PEMS does – PEMS for Placement

Placement Profile
As part of PEMS we ask that you create a profile for you placement.  This is to ensure that students are aware of the learning opportunities they will have with you and any essential information they need to know before attending placement.  Please ensure that your placement has an up to date and completed profile by using the guide above.  You will be asked to review your profile as part of your biannual audit. The form you can use to create your profile can be found here.

Welcome packs
Once a student has been allocated to placement, they are interested in finding out everything they can about where they are going.  The profile helps to give them information under the headings provided and in addition to this, placements are asked to complete a Welcome Pack to give to students.  This pack can contain information specific to your practice, the learning opportunities, policies and procedures and any other information which may aid with their induction.  Any packs can be sent to UoLpractice.support@lincoln.ac.uk

Partnership Agreement and Indemnity Insurance
We have to receive a signed copy of the Partnership Agreement document, found University of Lincoln Placement Learning Opportunities Partnership Agreement – V2 (June 2017) every 2 years in line with your audit.
Mentor Register
If you are part of ULHT or LCHS, the Inter-Professional Learning Unit (IPLU) hold the register for all mentors and need information on your updates and triennial reviews.  If you would like any information about this, please contact the IPLU on IPLU.system@ulh.nhs.uk.
If you are part of LPFT, you need to provide the same information to Training.LPFT@lpft.nhs.uk as they hold your register locally.
If you are part of a Trust outside of ULHT, LCHS, and LPFT, or are an independent practice that we work with, we hold the mentor register at the University.   This requires you to inform us of all updates and reviews in order for us to keep you registered as a current mentor on our database.  You can check the mentors registered for your organisation on PEMS using the link at the top of this page.  If you have a new mentor join your team or there are details that are incorrect on PEMS, you can use the mentor questionnaire form found New Mentor Check list and email back to uolpractice.support@lincoln.ac.uk for us to update our records.

The current academic planner can be found here Programme Planner for Pre-Registration Nursing Programmes 18-19 Programme Planner for Pre-Registration Nursing Programmes 18-19

Tariff
Trust tariff is paid directly at the beginning of the year to each Trust.  PVI tariff is paid once a purchase order has been sent to you and an invoice received by the University.  Our finance officer will be able to answer questions on tariff payments and we will set you up with an Supplier ID when you first take students.  The form can be found here and returned to rmason@lincoln.ac.uk

Public Health Elective Placement
These are placements that the students are given the opportunity to arrange their own experiences.  Students may choose to go abroad for this placement or work with agencies such as the East Midlands Ambulance Service.  Other students choose an area of health that interests them and take the opportunity to learn more about this such as sexual health, fitness and gyms, children/childcare, mental health, community services.  We encourage students to think about what they could learn and how they benefit from this placement. It is a 4 week placement that is not competency assessed.  The student does not need to be with a qualified mentor or even a nurse and a self audit is all that is needed from the placement (see under “audit”).  The students have 4 learning objectives which revolve around looking at the health needs of the population they are working with.

Competency Assessed Placements
These are where the student is assessed against the NMC Competencies and requires to be with a registered mentor for 40% of their time on placement.  The placement length is between 7 and 14 weeks and students complete 6 of these (2 each year) over their course.  A full educational audit is required to discuss the learning experiences of your placement to ensure the student can meet their competencies and check the site and organisation is quality assured and safe.
